All projects and content of this website are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0 (ALv2). This license was determined to best meet the licensing requirements most important to Virgil and the Jini Community:

• acceptance as a commonly used and open source license
• language not too complex, but also not too simple/vague
• applicability for both code and specifications
• clear patent language

Per April 2005 the ALv2 replaced the general BSD license without the advertising clause, known as the Cheiron BSD License as well as the dual licensing strategy (BSD/Jini SCSL), known as the Cheiron Dual License (chosen due to the Jini SCSL, see this explanation for the reasoning of that licensing model).
